Somnium Eleven Announcement: Decision on Worldwide Release
Somnium Eleven launched officially to the US and Canadian market on Feb 23rd, 2022. A million thank you’s to all of our players who have supported the game! We’ve loved seeing all of the amazing fan creations and social media shares 💖
Shortly after launch week, we encouraged users to submit requests for the next countries we would roll out to. Based on the submissions, we officially rolled the game out to Germany, France, and Brazil. At the same time, we also did a soft launch of S11 to Indonesia and Malaysia to test things out.
However, based on the results from servicing 5 countries outside of the US and Canada, we’ve had to make the extremely difficult decision not to release Somnium Eleven worldwide, beyond the current availability - notably, the game is available in countries where our S11 Kickstarter backers are located as we want to honor their Kickstarter pledges because they helped bring S11 to life.
Because it is important for us to be transparent, we wanted to share with you the reasons why we came to this tough decision:
Worldwide release is costly because of several reasons. We are a small Indie team of three women. And in addition, S11 requires several services to keep the game running - such as servers, security consulting, and more.
Somnium Eleven is performing well in the US and Canada, however we’ve experienced challenges with our international adoption.
We will be releasing an additional blog post about each reason for those who are interested in learning more behind-the-scenes of what it’s like to be an indie dev.
We hope for everyone’s understanding in this hard decision that we had to make as we’d like to keep our studio open so we can create more games and one day be able to make worldwide releases ✨ We hope that the next blog post is informative about the challenges of being an indie developer and helps aspiring developers!
